Black sesame has got to be one of nature’s greatest inventions. Seriously. It’s rich, it’s nutty, it’s unbelievably fragrant and a tiny bit of black sesame sauce adds great flavour to any dish. Gochi-So Shokudo seems to further prove my hypothesis with the launch of their new limited edition Black Sesame Cheese Tonkatsu Set. The Black Sesame Cheese Tonkatsu Set comes with a large piece of pork katsu fried to golden brown perfection, filled with oozy cheese and rich black sesame sauce. The Black Sesame Cheese Katsu is served with a bowl of rice, shredded vegetables, soup and a rich sauce with black and white sesame seeds. The Black Sesame Cheese Tonkatsu Set is priced differently depending on the day of patronisation. From Mondays to Thursdays, you can get this set at S$15.80++. On Fridays, weekends, public holidays and eves of public holidays, the set is slightly pricier at S$17.80++. According to Gochi-So Shokudo, their Black Sesame Cheese Katsu is layered in a Mille Fueille style, with them supposedly being the first restaurant in Singapore to do so. I’ve typically only seen black sesame paste being used in breads and desserts, so seeing it being added into a savoury dish like a fried pork cutlet definitely intrigues me. The tantalisingly flowy cheese fillings look incredible, and the unique addition of black sesame makes this dish stand out like no other black sesame dish I’ve seen before. Gochi-So Shokudo’s limited-edition Black Sesame Cheese Tonkatsu Set will be available at all its outlets from 25 April to 31 May 2022. See the full list of Gochi-So Shokudo outlets
