Asunción, IP Agency.- The government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, officially injected G. 4,367,697,551 into sesame production, within the framework of the official launch of the 2024/25 sesame planting, which was organized by the agricultural portfolio, institutions of the MAG System and the Paraguayan Chamber of Sesame Exporters (CAPEXSE). On the occasion, agricultural implements and seeds were also delivered to producers. It was during the event chaired by the head of the MAG, Carlos Giménez, in Kambarembe, district of San Vicente Pancholo in the department of San Pedro. On the occasion, Minister Giménez delivered a farm tractor along with tools for direct sowing, including a seeder, sprayer and a climber. The National Development Bank also provided loans to sesame producers in the Kambarembe colony of the Ko'e Pyahu association. These contributions were made through the Project to Improve the Performance of Family Agricultural Production in Paraguay (PROMAF-PY). Giménez said that the objective is to innovate in agriculture, highlighting that the area is characterized as one of the largest producers of sesame in the country. He said that the agricultural portfolio under his charge has technicians to guide, train and teach the producers of the department. He stressed that the official start of sesame planting has begun, which is a very important product and has allowed Paraguay to be recognized worldwide for the quality of its seed.“Today marks the official launch of the planting campaign for this important product, sesame, which makes Paraguay known throughout the world, so that next year Paraguay will continue to be recognized for the quality of its sesame and we can continue to conquer markets with good prices,” he stressed. Giménez confirmed that the Paraguayan government, through the School Feeding Program, will provide space for all agricultural production and, starting next year, 47 institutions will have school lunches in this neighborhood. He said that the goal is to continue producing well and conquer markets. He stressed that it is necessary to be more productive, which is why the necessary tools are provided to get out of poverty and have sustainable agriculture.On the other hand, Gilberto Ozorio, president of CAPEXSE, mentioned that the private sector considers sesame to be the main source of income for family farming. He stressed that the association he heads has been working in this sector for more than 30 years, an agribusiness, reaching more than 30 countries with sesame, and more than 68 with chia; in addition to being marketers and processors.He also pointed out that the department of San Pedro is the largest producer of sesame, followed by Concepción, Canindeyú, Caaguazú, Caazapá, Guaira and Itapuá in the Eastern region. In Chaco, a lot of sesame is also being produced in indigenous and Mennonite communities, he added. He explained that there are two varieties of sesame in Paraguay, the confectioner sesame, which is artisanal, produced by small-scale family farming and the harvest is also done in an artisanal way. He explained that other varieties such as the k2 broom and sh1 are varieties that are also managed in an artisanal way and have as their main market Asia, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, and China. As for the mechanized one, he mentioned that it is in high demand by the international market, like the K3 and P10, whose production is projected to triple, he indicated. He also mentioned that they work in harmony through a public-private alliance.
