Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of the Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) is promoting and educating the farmers on oilseed crops so as to increase the farm income of farmers by increasing the oilseed crops production in the district. According to Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr. Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi said that sesame is the leading oilseeds crops in the district and KVK is stressing on the scientific farming of sesame. He said that KVK is urging the farmers to adopt the latest technologies of sesame crop recommended by the KVK. He said that KVK is emphasizing on the use of quality seed of sesame crop. He narrated that KVK, Reasi is educating the farmers on scientific cultivation of oilseed crops such as sesame and G.Sarson by which they can enhance their oilseed crops production. He said that farmers are suggested to utilize the certified seed of improved varieties of oilseed crops. He expressed that there is need to timely weeding/hoeing in oilseed crops for the good yield. He further said that there is need of soil testing, proper Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) and Integrated Disease Management (IDM) in oilseed crops to get the maximum yield. He said that KVK is guiding farmers on the timely management major insect-pests infesting the oilseed crops. He added that there is need of value addition in oilseed crops for more returns by the farmers. KVK, Reasi has laid Front Line Demonstrations of improved variety (RT-351) of sesame in different locations of the district to showcase the advance technologies and by observing the successful results, farmers are showing keen interested towards the technologies demonstrated by the KVK. KVK is encouraging the farmers to increase their area under oilseed crops.
