Ramanathapuram: Sesame cultivation is going on in Ramanathapuram, Nainarkoil, Chattrakudi area. Sesame sells for up to Rs 100 a kg. But the farmers have been affected due to the lack of expected yield. Currently, agricultural activities are being carried out to cultivate lentils, cereals and oilseeds in an area of 6000 hectares.They have cultivated sesame in Ramanathapuram, Nainarkoil and Chattrakudi using the water from the Uruni area. Sesame yield is currently affected due to insufficient water during the harvest season. As a result, sesame seeds were selling at Rs 70 to Rs 80 a kg last month. Whereas Expected profit is not available due to lack of yield. Sesame is transported to Madurai, Kovilpatti and Virudhunagar by wholesalers.
