Farmers in the Dashoguz region annually harvest 10 centners of sesame per hectare.
This year, farmers in the Dashoguz velayat planted sesame on 560 hectares. Thanks to the high level of organization of the responsible campaign, the planting was completed on time. The main producers of this oilseed crop in the region are traditionally the Koneurgench etrap and the S. Turkmenbashi etrap, where 140 hectares are allocated to sesame each. Farmers in the Akdepe etrap grow the crop on slightly less, 125 hectares. Farmers in these etraps have considerable experience in sesame cultivation and reap high yields every year. Sesame thrives in warmth and light, and thrives in high temperatures. It is drought-resistant and requires less water than other crops. These characteristics, along with its relatively low soil requirements and short growing season, make it suitable for large-scale cultivation in local climate conditions. Farmers in the region annually harvest 10 centners of the crop per hectare. It hardly needs reminding about the numerous beneficial properties of this plant. Suffice it to say that residents of the region consider sesame oil to be in no way inferior to other oils, and it is simply irreplaceable in preparing authentic pilaf.
